Boxing Works Fight Team member Michael Koelzer made his MMA Debut this past Saturday at XAFS “Rumble on the Reservation” in San Diego. After a rough pre-fight week, which included opponent changes(3 times! One Opponent pulled out the day of the fight!) and a big weight cut, many people may have folded to the pressure. Michael showed amazing poise, and focused solely on the task at hand. Michael faced San Diego local Tony Martinez, who was coming into this fight with 4 fights under his belt. When the cage door was shut, both fighters took a few seconds to survey the situation and probe for weaknesses in their opponent. Michael found his range and scored with a big body kick. Tony grabbed the kick and attempted to take Michael down. This played right into Michaels game plan. Michael quickly got the back, secured a rear naked choke, and in just 39 seconds, registered his first MMA fight win!
